NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

This course deals only with BASICS, ie., basic knowledge, skills, and attitude - the essential elements to owning and using a rifle safely. 

Through this Basic Rifle Shooting Course, the shooter will learn rifle parts and operations, shooting fundamentals, shooting positions, sighting in, and sight alignment.

         "Always keep the gun pointed  in a safe direction" is emphasized as the golden rule of gun safety.

Length of course:  14 hours

Lessons:  (approximately two hours each)

       1.  Rifle Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling

       2.  Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Rifle Shooting

       3.  Firing the First Shot

       4.  Standing Shooting Positions

       5.  Prone and Kneeling Shooting Positions

       6.  Sitting Rifle Shooting Position and Review of Positions

       7.  Rifle Sports and Activities
